Wayne Aubrey Allen's Obituary
Wayne Aubrey Allen passed away peacefully on February 4, 2011 surrounded by family who loved him dearly. He was born May 24, 1927 to Ruby and Noble Allen in Gibson, Tennessee. His brother, Noble George Allen, Jr., was killed during World War II. He was a loving husband to his wife, Virginia Anne Milam Allen, for 62 years. He was a loving and supportive father to his daughters, Sharon Anne Allen Prewitt, and Brenda Allen Ratton Huff (Robert). His four grandsons, Thomas Ryan Prewitt, III (Cammie), Cory Allen Prewitt, Robert William Ratton, III (Katie), David Allen Ratton and two great granddaughters, Sara Katherine Ratton, and Anna Berendt Ratton, remember him for being an amazing grandfather who taught them how to water ski at the family cabin at Pickwick, to enjoy following the Tigers play basketball, how to safely ride motorcycles, and how to treat others with respect and generosity. Mr. Allen graduated from Southside High School. As a young man, Mr. Allen was a champion Golden Gloves boxer. After graduation, he entered the Navy and served as an electrician on three different ships. After his discharge from the Navy he worked at Haines Electric and later shared ownership of Berclair Electric. After he received his master electrician license, he started Allen Electric Co., Inc. in 1967. Former employees remember him as a kind and generous man who was always willing to help anyone in need. Mr. Allen was a long time member of The Rotary Club of Memphis. In 2004, he received an award for 50 years of faithful service in the Free and Accepted Masons. In 2005, he won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mid South Electrical Industry Association. Mr. Allen was an avid supporter of the University of Memphis basketball and could frequently be seen at home games and at post-season tournaments. He was president of the Rebounders Club from 1977-78. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2011 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. also at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Bellevue Baptist Church.
