Walter Eugene “Buck” Verner, age 87, long time family medicine physician in Memphis, died peacefully on August 17 after a long illness. He was born April 22, 1929, the son of Anna May Loller and Thomas Eugene Verner. He graduated Read Obituary
Walter Verner was my family’s doctor as a child up through reaching my 20’s. He was so great! He use to tell me he was gonna retire and wanted me to go to Canada to do some fishing with him. Great people are those you never forget and I’ve thought of him many times and wondered if he was in Canada fishing since I couldn’t find him on the physicians list.
Looking forward to seeing him again in heaven with Jesus’ list of greats!!!! Miss his humor and physician care!
I am one of those second generation patients. Doctor Verner was our family physician my entire life growing up.
He and Dr. Jerry Deaton were responsible for my care when it was discovered I had kidney disease and they took care of me over many years until I was completely healed. My family so appreciated and are so grateful for Doctor Verner. We thank God for him.
I am confident that my family is one of thousands of families that have a similar story.

I want Dr. Verner’s family to know how well loved he was by his patients. He treated my great grandmother, my grandmother, my mom, myself and my son. He even came to my grandmother’s house to treat my great grandmother. Dr. Verner was the only doctor that I and my son saw until his retirement in 1999! I was 42 when he retired and I missed him so much. I never have found a doctor that I like, like I did Dr. Verner. With all my love and deepest sympathy I send to his family. Buck Verner was not only our family doctor but a neighbor when we moved into Scenic Hills in 1953. He was always there when we needed him no matter time of day. One time my son, Danny West, broke his arm while i was a work. Danny got to Buck who set his arm, called me, and got him home. Rest in peace, Buck. Martha West Roper
Dr. Verner was my doctor when I was growing up and then he became our family doctor after I was married. He was there for every family crisis and as a doctor our entire family has never forgotten his commitment to us and all the many other families that he served. After reading his obituary it is no surprise that he continued to serve the medical community toward the end of his life.
