Just learned of Buddy's passing. I remember him from the 9th grade and after. In the junior high school football season of 1955, I was quarterback for the Kingsbury Falcons. It was the first year that Kingsbury entered the city junior high football league. Fortunately for us, we did not play Christian Bros. Jr. High team that maiden year...else our record would have been much worse that it was. The Christian Bros. team was awesome that year. They were big, fast, strong and had little trouble winning the Memphis Jr. High Football Championship that year. Of course, one of the team's leaders was Buddy. Next year, I transferred to Treadwell High School, and for three years played against Buddy, Phil Gagliano, Tim McCarver, Kermit Morgan (my former team mate at Kingsbury) and the rest of the CBHS athletic teams in football, basketball and baseball. Those were great years, and Buddy left an impressive , (albeit bruising in football), every time I went up against him in any of those sports. He was a fierce, yet fair, competitor with natural athletic ability rare for a teenager at that time. He was also a great sport and a gentleman both on and off the fields of sports. It was a pleasure to have shared those few years with him even as a competitor. We miss you, Buddy!
