Dr. Walter A. Rentrop's Obituary
DR. WALTER A. RENTROP, 83, prominent Memphis surgeon died at his home on Sunday, December 28, 2008, surrounded by his family and his faithful dog, Zack. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and University of Tennessee Medical School. He served his internship and residency at Methodist Hospital where he practiced for 60 years, until his retirement in 2007. His many medical accomplishments include Chief of Surgery and president of the Methodist Hospital medical staff in 1971. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a surgeon at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, GA. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia A. Rentrop, and his son Walter A. Rentrop Jr. He leaves his wife Julann B. Rentrop, daughter Patsy Rush (Bob), son Rex Rentrop ( Kit), stepson John Harrison and stepdaughter Ann Leatherman (Bobby). He also leaves brother Dr. Charles A. Rentrop and his twin brother, Dr. W.E. Rentrop and eight grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 31st at 2 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, with visitation on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm, with Rosary Service at 7 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Benedict at Auburndale Catholic School.
