Walter Jans' Obituary
Walter John Jans, 98, passed away April 12, 2015. He was born February 6, 1917 in Emory, South Dakota to Louis and Sophie Jans. His family later moved to a ranch in Wall, South Dakota which was homesteaded by his father. In 1942 he joined the Army, after boot camp he was sent to San Francisco, CA for training in Orthopaedics. He was immediately sent to Kennedy General Hospital at Shotwell-Getwell at Park Ave in Memphis where he was in charge of the brace shop at the VA Hospital. In 1945, he married Nicole- this July they would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. He leaves his wife Nicole; daughter, Cathie Day (Chet); and granddaughter, Rachel Nicole Solimine. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, from 1:00-2:00 at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
