Walter Bernard Hill's Obituary
Walter Bernard Hill, 85, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2014. He was born on May 2, 1929 to Walter Buswell Hill and Lucille Trotter Hill. He was a member of First Evangelical Church with a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ as his only Lord and Savior. He was a faithful husband, a loving and gracious father and caring grandfather, a generous supporter of local and foreign missions, and a huge supporter of University of Memphis football, basketball and baseball teams where he had season tickets for 50 years, was a member of the Highland Hundred and served on the athletic department’s scholarship endowment board. Through his charitable gift, the Thompson-Hill Chair of Accounting was endowed at the University of Memphis business school. He trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ and loved to share his faith. He gave freely of himself to help others. He loved to tell a witty funny joke, read great history books, catch fish all day, watch the news, compete in duplicate bridge tournaments and tend his garden. He was a CPA, lawyer and CFO of UMIC and served in the Army and Army Reserve. For more than 20 years following his retirement, he and his wife served faithfully each year at the Jordanian Bedouin Medical Hospital. Mr. Hill is preceded in death by his sister Cecilia Irene Hill Calhoon and his son Richard D Hill (Jane Sharp). He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Ann Danielson Hill and sons Walter B Hill Jr (Lorinda) and Paul B Hill MD (Elizabeth). He has 6 grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis,TN and beginning at 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Blvd, Memphis, TN. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bernard Hill Missions Fund, First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Blvd., Memphis, TN 38120.
