Voorhies Daniel Clayton's Obituary
Voorhies Daniel Clayton passed away on July 1, 2021 at home in Memphis at the age of 101.
Born in Holly Springs, MS, on February 19, 1920, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Percy Allen Clayton, Jr.; parents James Fort Daniel and Sallie May Sudduth Daniel; sister, Willie Polk Daniel French; and grandson James Clayton Sutherland.
She graduated from Holly Springs High School and the University of Mississippi. She worked for IBM in New York, returning to Memphis and Holly Springs where she met her future husband. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for 59 years. A devout Christian, she was devoted to her Lord and her family.
She is survived by her four children: Sarah Clayton, Baton Rouge, LA; Susan Clayton Sutherland (Clarence), Nashville, TN; Laura Clayton West, and Percy Allen Clayton III, Memphis; and grandchildren, Julia Clare Sutherland, Nashville, TN; William Knight West III, Memphis; and Sarah Clayton West, Opelika, AL; and two great-grandsons, Christian Clayton Sutherland, Mt. Juliet, TN; and Parker Houston Pate, Memphis.
The family wishes to thank her wonderful caregivers, especially Sharon Johnson for her dedicated and faithful service of many years, Barbara Duty, and many others.
