Virgle Foster's Obituary
Virgle T. Foster, 93, passed away on February 13, 2010, at the VA Medical Center, Memphis. Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Tharp Foster. He leaves his daughter, Diane Rose and son-in-law, Greg Rose of Memphis; his granddaughter, Miranda Goldsby and her husband Drew of Jackson, TN. He was born in Poinsett County, Arkansas, the son of William Joseph and Mary Della Wilkins Foster. He had an amazing memory and told wonderful stories of growing up farming, fishing and hunting with his brothers, Aubrey, Vernie, Lloyd, Nelton and John. Virgle joined the Army in 1941, serving in Alaska in WW II. After discharge in 1945, he returned home to Arkansas. He began his career with the VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas in 1946, later transferring to Memphis VA Hospital as a nursing assistant, where he met his wife, Cora, who also worked at the VA. He proudly cared for veteran patients for 27 years. After retiring, he loved buying and selling junk/treasures at the Memphis Flea Market and the Ripley First Monday Trade Days. He also enjoyed working at the Army Surplus Store. Virgle was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was happiest when working in the garden or sharing his famous turnip greens with friends at church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2010 with the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday February 17, 2010, all being held at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
