Virginia Dare Thompson Ross' Obituary
Virginia Dare Thompson Ross passed away on January 19 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. She was the widow of Harry Walter Ross, daughter of the late Frances Jowers Thompson and Percy Blaine Thompson. She is preceded in death by her two brothers Calvin E. Thompson and Robert Dancy Thompson. Virginia and Harry were the owners of Harry Ross and Sons Grocery Stores for 37 years. She was a member of Union Ave. Baptist Church and also attended Peabody of Baptist Church. She and her family resided at 1258 Peabody for over 40 years. Virginia leaves her daughter, Virginia (Kitty) R Bowen of Greenville, SC, sons; Harry Ross and wife Tari of Tupelo, MS and Randy Ross of Memphis. She also leaves her grandchildren; Ross Bowen of Avon, CT, Richard Steele Bowen of Peachtree City, GA, Harry W. Ross III of Memphis, Cinnamon Lawson of Kentucky and Brandi Curtis of Memphis, ten great-grandchildren and two sisters; Mynelle Dyer of Memphis, and Joyce Payne of Ocala, FL. The family would like to give special thanks to Tari Ross for her tender and loving care of Virginia.Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23rd at 5 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
