Virginia Hester Parker's Obituary
Virginia Hester Parker, 84, Mama loved the Lord, her Savior. When she came into this world on June 23, 1925 as a premature baby, the Lord was with her and remained by her side. At 69, Mama was diagnosed with leukemia and given 3 months to live, but God spared her for another 15 years. As she took her final breath on November 14, 2009, the Lord was there to welcome Heaven’s newest choir member.Virginia was married to Otis E. Parker from July 3, 1945 until her death. During their 64 year union, she had 5 children: Marcus, Elane, twins Brenda and Linda, and Kathy. She had 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many friends. She was proud of all her children and loved them dearly. Virginia was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for many years. After raising her children, Virginia worked for over 15 years with the Memphis City Schools until her retirement.Mama had a youthful innocence throughout her entire life. She loved animals, sports, crocheting, games of all kinds, and crafts. She especially loved the holidays and any family gathering. Even during a brief period of rehabilitation in a nursing home, unlike many residents, Mama was in the recreation center playing Bingo, Wii Bowling, and attending church. The dash between her date of birth and the date of her passing represents how Mama lived her life. Only those who shared this dash truly knew how wonderful she was. She will be dearly missed by those closest to her.Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Hester and Eula Replogle Hester, and her brother, Earl. She is survived by her husband, Otis E. Parker of Corinth, MS.The family will be receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, November 16, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery-East.
