Virginia Webb Nowlin's Obituary
Virginia Webb Nowlin, age 97, passed away December 5, 2018. She was born February 5, 1921 in Philadelphia, MS to Minnie and Thomas Webb. She was educated in Philadelphia, MS and graduated from Blue Mountain Girls College, New Albany, MS. After graduation, she moved to Memphis, TN where she soon met her future husband, Lt. George G. Nowlin, Sr. They married, and in 1945, George G. Nowlin, Jr. was born who predeceased her in 1978.She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she served the church in many capacities throughout her life. She was a fine Southern, Christian woman who loved to work in her flower beds. Her life revolved around family and church, and she had many, many friends who mourn her passing. During her married life, she was both secretary and bookkeeper to her husband in his real estate, construction, and farming interests.She is survived by her son, William Webb Nowlin, of Memphis, TN; granddaughter, Allison Nowlin Ward, of Narrowsburg, NY; great-grandson, Alec Gardner Ward, of Narrowsburg, NY; and brothers, Allan Webb and Steve Webb.The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 11 and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
