Virginia Gilley's Obituary
Virginia Louise Pool Emerson Gilley, 97, a very loving and devoted mother, wife, and friend of many, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Methodist Hospital North. Virginia was born in Matheston, MS and lived most of her life in Little Rock, AR and Memphis. She taught school for 37 years, mostly in the second grade and read a Bible story to her children every day until she retired from the Shelby County School System. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa (teacher sorority), the Raleigh Community Council, Lakewood Home and Garden Club, and several bridge and bunco clubs. She was a member of Raleigh United Methodist Church. Virginia was a Christian all her life and was an example to follow. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cuthbert G. Pool, Ed Emerson, and J. E. Gilley and daughter, Virginia P. Murphy. Virginia is survived by her son, Dr. Charles G. Pool of Burbonnais, IL and three grandchildren, John C. Murphy of Merrit Island, FL, Charles D. Pool of Dayton, OH, and Barbara E. Rucker of Fischers, IN; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 3 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Raleigh United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Raleigh United Methodist Church, 3295 Powers Road, Memphis, TN 38128.
