Virginia Sigman Brunson's Obituary
Mrs. Virginia Sigman Brunson of Dyersburg, formerly of Memphis, TN, retired teacher of Memphis Preparatory School, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Dyersburg Manor in Dyersburg, TN. She was a member of Whitehaven Baptist Church where she was secretary of the Adult II Department. She was a graduate of University of Memphis. Mrs. Brunson was a prominent member of the Shelby County School System for many years. She taught Latin and English at Whitehaven High School from 1963 to 1972, taught at Whitehaven Presbyterian School in 1973, and taught at Memphis Preparatory School from 1974 to 1985. She was a member of Kennedy Book Club, past President of Longview Heights Elementary School, past secretary of Memphis Council of P.T.A. and founder of Teen Town in Whitehaven. Visitation will be held in the Fireside Room at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services for Mrs. Brunson will be Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Fireside Room at 11:30, conducted by Dr. Jim Meredith. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. Mrs. Brunson, the widow of Bruce H. Brunson, leaves two sons, Dr. Bruce C. Brunson and Theresa of Silt, CO and Dr. Kenneth L. Brunson and Angela of Dyersburg, TN, a sister Bonnie S. Pearson of Memphis, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The family request that any memorials be sent to Whitehaven Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice. She was preceded in death by a brother J.W. Sigman.
