Virgil Thomas Whitten's Obituary
Virgil Thomas Whitten, 86, of Memphis passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019. One of nine children born and raised in McNairy County, Mr. Whitten spent most of his adult life in the Memphis area and retired from Coors Brewing Company in 1999. He enjoyed dogs, motorcycles and NASCAR and could build or repair almost anything. It was his joy to do such things for family and friends.He leaves two sons, Johnny Whitten and his wife, Joan of Montgomery, AL; Gary Whitten and his wife, Donna of Collierville, TN; and his daughter, Ann Jarrell of Snellville, GA; nine grandchildren, Max Whitten; Michele (Joe) Lyons; Aaron (Kris) Whitten; Amanda (Jeremy) Lynch; Mike Jarrell; Zachary (Florina) Whitten; Jordan Whitten; Megan (Chris) Woods; and Brian Jarrell; nine great grandchildren, Olivia Whitten, Nick Lyons, Vincent Whitten, Olivia Lyons, Jonathan Lynch, Samuel Lynch, Gideon Lynch, Silas Jarrell, and Nadya Whitten; one great-great-grandchild, Oliver Whitten; and his sister, Arlene Crowe.The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, March 14 from 1:30pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:30pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The committal will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
