Miller, Vicki's Obituary
Vicki Miller (née McCallum), who lived a life of love, generosity, and creativity died on December 25, 2024 at the age of 78 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Vicki was born in 1946 in Vincennes, IN, but spent most of her childhood near Pittsburgh, PA. She married David Miller, her childhood friend since age 13, in November of 1967 in Pass Christian, MS. While David was in the military, they lived together and started a family in Florida, Germany, and Oklahoma, before settling in Bartlett, TN.
As a mother, Vicki told her children that the world was unjust, so “the fairest place will be our home.” She was a generous parent, giving to her children while giving few indulgences to herself. She was “everyone’s mom,” volunteering for all sorts of events at her children’s schools such that other kids felt comfortable calling on her for help.
She was crafty from a young age, winning a state fair award for an apron she sewed. She knitted, crocheted, and sewed clothes and costumes for her girls as they grew. Though as a cook she was prone to using boxed mixes and jarred sauces, Vicki always baked and decorated her girls’ birthday cakes herself.
In 2015, Vicki became a grandmother and was known lovingly by her grandchildren as “Mee Maw.” With both her children and grandchildren, she wanted kids to be kids and was exceedingly patient. She was even willing to play Zoom hide and seek with her grandkids during the pandemic.
Vicki loved cats and could often be seen wearing clothes adorned with kitties in one way or another. Her drink of choice was a flat white latte from Starbucks. Known to be kind, you learned to watch out if you took away her sweet tea before she was finished. Her family will miss her smile, her sharp memory, and her strong opinions on celebrities.
She is survived by her three children, Amanda Miller, Ashley Miller, and Alaina Banno; sons-in-law Josh Dohmen and Koki Banno; four grandchildren, Sachi Banno, Lorelai Dohmen, Mina Banno, and Miyu Banno; and grandkitties Eva and Tuna. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Miller, her father, Joseph McCallum, and her mother, Doris McCallum. She was also preceded by beloved pets Tracey, Biscuit, Walinda, and Cisco.
The visitation for Vicki will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home (5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis) from 5-7pm on Monday, December 30. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, one of Vicki’s favorite charities.
