Vernon Stewart's Obituary
Vernon Stewart, 85, passed away at Baptist Hospital, Tuesday, May 04, 2010. He was Sunshine Chairman for his church, Colonial Baptist, retired after 30 years with Norton Company, and was an Army veteran of WW II. He had volunteered at MIFA Meals on Wheels for 23 years and had been nominated Volunteer of the Year many times. Vernon was one of the Thousand Points of Light, for President George H. W. Bush, loved Big Band Music, Old Movies, and was a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds,Chicago Bears, and Chicago Bulls. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, May Stewart and survived by his children, Donald Stewart, of Hendersonville, TN., Robert Stewart (Barbara) of Cary, Ill. and Chris Barnes (Tim)of Memphis. He also leaves his grandchildren, Dustin Stewart, Sara Stewart, Rachel Garcia (Daniel); sister-in-laws, Louise Whitehead, and Clara Nell Foley; as well as family friend, Marjorie Woodward. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 6, from 6-8 p.m., with the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, all being held at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
