Vernell S. Thomas' Obituary
Vernell Strickland Thomas, 92, of Camden, TN went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2016. Vernell was born on June 28, 1924 in Pocahontas, TN to John William and Mary Nelson Thomas. He married Mary Sue Chambers on July 14, 1944 in Hernando, MS. Vernell was a retired business owner in Memphis, TN and served as a sheriff’s deputy for Benton County in middle Tennessee. He also served as a gunner in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Through the years, he enjoyed motorcycle trips with family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father and a beloved “Papa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vernell is survived by his son, Tom Thomas (Nancy) of Walls, MS and his daughter, Elaine Wade of Edmond, OK as well as six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Sue Thomas and two sons, Roy Thomas and Rae Thomas. The visitation for Vernell is Saturday November 5 at 1:30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN with the service immediately following at 2:30 pm. If preferred, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital“Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
