Verlia Mae Hutcherson's Obituary
Verlia Mae Beckwith Hutcherson, 99, of Oakland, TN ran into the arms of Jesus Monday, September 12, 2022 at NHC in Somerville, TN. She was born on February 1, 1923 in Duckhill, MS to John Richard and Lena Beckwith. Verlia was of the Christian faith and as a teenager received Jesus Christ as her savior while attending Gooden Lake Baptist Church. She was raised in Belzoni, MS graduating in 1941 from Gooden Lake High School. After graduating high school, she moved to Memphis, TN to work for Fisher Aircraft riveting wings for fighter planes. After leaving Fisher Aircraft, Verlia worked for American Snuff Company in Memphis, TN. She retired in 1988 after 30 plus years of service.
At the age of 24, she married Ethridge Atlee Hutcherson and had two sons. Verlia lived a full life and enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, growing beautiful flowers that she wanted to share with everyone, making her famous banana pudding and pecan cake, and returning to Belzoni, MS to visit family. She never turned down a strawberry milkshake or a spicy chicken sandwich. She lit up every room she entered with her beautiful smile, singing and dancing, and made sure everyone knew she loved them “a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.”
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside celebration of life which will be held at 2pm, Monday, September 19, 2022 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens under the direction of Memorial Park.
She is survived by her two sons Richard Hutcherson (Alice) and Phillip Hutcherson both of Oakland, TN; one sister, Iva Nelle Booth of Belzoni, MS; six grandchildren Richard Scott Hutcherson (Christina), Amy McCurry (Mike), Kelly Kimery (Dale), Jessica Wilson (Davin), Alisha Hutcherson, Ashley Marks (Daniel); 14 great-grandchildren, Rebecca Sater (David), Jacob Presson, Chelsea Hutcherson, Andrew Hutcherson, Jenna Kimery, Branden Cecil, Kasey Kimery, David Marks, Aiden Cecil, Evan Marks, Zoey Landry, Bradley Marks, Haleigh Marks, and Emma Marks; and one great-great-grandchild Harper Woods.
Pall Bearers – Mike McCurry, Dale Kimery, Jacob Presson, Brandon Cecil, Davin Wilson, Daniel Marks, Scotty Hutcherson, and Andrew Hutcherson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, and seven brothers.
