Vanessa James, 87, of Memphis passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Kirby Pines Estates. She is survived by her son, Jeff James; daughter-in-law, Sherry James; grandsons, Hunter and Jared James; sister, Linda Barron; and brothers Read Obituary
Writing my senior term paper for her was my first real experience in writing at a college level. I am sixty-one years old and it is still a vivid experience. She taught me to read, organize thoughts and present them in a clear and concise manner. This might sound like a trivial tribute but it changed the direction of my education. Mrs. James was my senior English teacher at BBHS 1970-1971. Her influence didn’t stop at graduation. I carried what I learned from her all the way through my Master’s program and into my own teaching today. She was always impeccably dreassed, gracious, and very student oriented. She was a wonderful role model and a fantastic woman. I had the opportunity to care for her at Kirby Pines during the last few years of her life and she remained just as gracious then as she was when I was younger. Mrs. James was a great teacher that demanded excellence from her students. For that I am thankful as it has helped me enormously throughout my career. She was very kind to everyone and a great example to young women at BBHS. May her soul rest in Peace.
i just want to share this story that has stayed in my heart for years…my dad transferred to Memphis 1976 from puerto Rico to Memphis tn… i never did liked the idea..it was a very prejudice city..i have to say i never got used to this city…the hate was something i never understood…to make story short i was a baseball player with a good future, but my chances to a major college was devistated with a knee injury in my senior year…the only person that showed up to my surgery was this great teacher…today i stand as a college baseball hall of fame and a puerto Rico olympic hall of fame member…i thank you vanessa James..may the Lord reward you greatly for your compassion and love for others..GOD BLESS THE FAMILY….
