Topsy Lavine (Smithers) Wolfe's Obituary
Topsy Lavine (Smithers) Wolfe passed into heaven at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis on February 7, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Previously, Topsy was a resident of Carriage Court of Memphis, and lived for many years in Germantown and Collierville with her devoted husband, Eldred, until he passed in 2012. Topsy was born in Philipp, MS in 1924, and at various times in her adult life lived in eleven different states throughout the country. She was a graduate of Portland State University. She taught high school English, was a painter and an avid reader, and was active in PTO and the American Association of University Women for many years. Topsy is survived by her two children, David Wolfe of Bentonville, AR and Donald Wolfe of Perkasie, PA and her grandson, Justin Wolfe of Austin, TX. There will be a private burial for Topsy next to her husband at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. A memorial service for family members and close friends will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers and gifts to the family, the family requests that donations in Topsy’s honor be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
