Tony Martin Austin's Obituary
Tony Martin Austin, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend will be loved and remembered long after his passing.
Tony passed away on August 15, 2021 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his wife Bettie and his son Gary.
Tony is survived by his brother Gilbert, children Debra Sledd (Daniel), Tina Austin, and Marty Austin (Stacey Reeves Austin). His legacy will be carried on by generations of loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The simplest pleasures in life, such as enjoying a leisure round of golf, singing gospels and playing guitar. Spending time with loved ones brought the greatest joy to Tony.
Tony proudly served his country in the army as a sergeant in the Korean War and continued his public service as a Memphis police officer driving car #1 on Beale Street. He was known as Mr. Smiley by his colleagues.
After leaving the police department, Tony began working for Womack Exterminators in 1961 and acquired the business as owner/operator until he retired. He loved his church and would always extend a helping hand to anyone in need.
