Tomye Eckles' Obituary
Tomye DeLois Eckles, 94, touched the Hand of Jesus August 29, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cpt. Bill Eckles, MFD RET. Mrs. Eckles is survived by her children, John Lay (Barbara), Joe Lay (Vickie), Patricia Lay Whitehurst, and Susan Lay O’Guin (Tim); grand children, Wade and Ryan Lay, Joseph and Darrin (Kara) Lay, Heather Smith (Ricky), and C.P. Whitehurst; and six great grandchildren, Jackson, Alex, Issac, Mac, Abbi and Kathryn Ann. Mrs. Eckles was born in Carrollton, MS, to the late Benny Abraham and Lelea Thedosia (Willoughby) Tollison. Also preceded in death were her siblings of DeWhitt Talmadge, Maude Eveland (Lollar), Precilla Alease (Frazier), Paul Grey, and B.L. (Boyd Leland) Tollison.Mrs. Eckles was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Whitehaven and in her later years never missed the Sunday Morning programs of Steve Gaines and Charles Stanley. Mrs. Eckles was the Manager for Raiford’s Orthopedic Children’s Shoes located in the Youngtown Store Location for many years. The Loves of her Life were Jesus, her Family, People, and the American Flag. Her favorite past times were seeing the beauty of trees, feeding birds and seeing shapes in the clouds!The Family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 1 and her funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 2 at the Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”
