Tomasz Szkopinski's Obituary
Tomasz Szkopinski, 65, passed away on January 18, 2022 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Dzierzoniow, Poland to Marianna and Boleslaw Szkopinski, who both predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Miroslaw Kucharski.
In his younger years, he participated in dirt bike racing, rally racing, and snow skiing. In his later years, he enjoyed participating in martial arts, hunting, and completing home projects.
From the young age of 13, he began working in his mother’s produce store while attending school. In May of 1985, he immigrated to the United States via a refugee camp in Italy. He was determined to make a good life in the United States and decided that Memphis, TN would be the place he would call home. He arrived in Tennessee with fifty cents in his pocket, a bag of clothes in his hand, and a lot of faith. It would be several years before his devoted wife and young son could join him in the USA.
Tomasz is survived by his loving wife, Joanna, of forty years; his son Bartosz and daughter-in-law Courtney; two grandsons, Logan and Paul Szkopinski, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tomasz always made family a priority; he was a hero to his son and grandsons, the fixer of broken things, the strongest man we knew; He could do it all and he would do it with love. His steadfast dedication to family and friends along with his unyielding ability to make any problem seem trivial will never be forgotten.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 27 at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. all at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest Dr. Memphis, TN, 38119. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, 38119. (901) 767-8930.
