Tom McCrory's Obituary
Tom McCrory (Wilton Thomas McCrory, Jr.), a proud combat veteran of the U.S. Army passed away on November 3, 2023 in St Louis, Missouri from pancreatic cancer at the age of 82.
The son of Thomas and Allie Mae McCrory grew up around Portageville, Missouri. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed nuclear missile training and flight school. He valued this service highly and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. As part of this service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery in battle.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene, five children: Tom, John Patrick, Kristin O’Kelley, Mark, and Melissa, as well as thirteen grandchildren, and his sisters Gladys and Dena. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Jean, and grandson Thomas.
His loved ones will remember his quiet steady faith, his love of family, his sense of humor, his obsession with the Memphis Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals, and his love of travel. Earlier in life Tom had a passion for Tennessee Walking Horses (even winning the World Grand Championship) and entrepreneurship which led to the creation of his own business. But no matter what he did, whether flying helicopters, snuggling grandchildren, traveling abroad, directing planes as an air traffic controller, grilling out for his family, selling appliances, or volunteering at church, he strived to do it with integrity, excellence, a smile, and if you were lucky, a wink.
A Lutheran service honoring Tom’s life will be held at Memorial Park on Veterans Day – Friday, November 10, 2023. Visitation at 12:00. Funeral at 1:00. The family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network: https://pancan.org
