Timothy John Mauer's Obituary
Timothy John Mauer, son of Theresa and the late Dr. Alvin Mauer, died October 3, 2014 at home in Memphis, TN.Born in Iowa City, Iowa, January 7, 1953, He lived most of his youth in Cincinnati, Ohio where he attended St. Xavier High School. He graduated from the University of Rochester NY and continued his Chinese studies at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Taipei, Tiawan.He is survived by his mother Theresa, brother Stephen Mauer of the Bronx, New York and two sisters Daria Mauer of Memphis and Beth Mauer Sweeney of Chicago, Illinois, a sister in law Christine Dakin, a brother in law Thomas Sweeney and two nieces Rebecca and Kristen Sweeney.Tim moved to Memphis in the late 70’s. He enjoyed reading, traveling, open water scuba diving and gourmet cooking. Devoted to family, he helped ease his fathers last years. He worked for Jim Keras Nissan for more than 32 years.He fought his illness with stubborn courage and wry humor, battled hard and then gracefully accepted the end.Visitation with the family will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave at 1:30 pm Thursday, October 9. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:30.In lieu of flowers please make any contributions in his name to the American Cancer Society, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
