Thomas Vanderslice's Obituary
Thomas Wesley Vanderslice departed this life unexpectedly on December 20, 2017 after a heart attack at home. Thomas was born on January 1, 1959 in Bay Springs, MS to the late Elzie Mae and Adron Clyde Vanderslice. He resided in Memphis most of his adult life after graduating from his beloved Ole Miss in 1980. Thomas was a coach and teacher at Bishop Byrne High School, Director of Operations at SBEC, owned a local fitness gym, and for the last 15 years was an agent for Crye-Leike Realty. One of his proudest accomplishments was being awarded Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association Boys Basketball Coach in 1989, 1990 and Best of the Preps 1988-1989. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 32 years, Brenda Branyan Vanderslice, daughters, Adron Elizabeth Vanderslice and Angela Diane Vanderslice, son, Thomas Wesley Vanderslice Jr., sister, Annie Jewel King of Bay Springs, MS, mother-in-law, Genevieve Branyan and a niece, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty Clyde Presley and his brother-in-law, Donald Branyan. Thomas was loved by all of his extended family & friends. Thomas was an avid Ole Miss fan and enjoyed tailgating in The Grove. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and weekends at Horseshoe Lake. Thomas and his family were formerly members of Grace Evangelical Church in Germantown, and currently are members at Woodland Presbyterian Church in Memphis, where Thomas was an active elder. Visitation will be Friday, December 22nd at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Service will be at 11:00AM Saturday, December 23rd at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Blvd., Memphis TN. Service will be conducted by their friend and pastor of Woodland Presbyterian, Rev. Matt Miller. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials honoring Thomas be directed to Woodland Presbyterian Church, 5217 Park Ave, Memphis 38119 or a charity of your choice
