Thomas Turner's Obituary
Thomas Anderson Turner, 94, of Memphis, died March 8, 2010. He was born February 2, 1916, in Edinburg, MS, but grew up in Elaine, AR. Upon graduation from Elaine High School he moved to Memphis to study pharmacy at the University of Tennessee. He owned Southwestern Pharmacy for eighteen years. During that time he served as President of the Memphis Retail Drug Association. In 1966 he went to work in the pharmacy at the Regional Medical Center where he spent twenty years and joined the faculty of UT, teaching clinical pharmacy. Mr. Turner was a member of First Baptist Church, Memphis, and of the Al Chymia Shrine Patrol.& He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating. In recent years he has been a member of the Lewis Senior Center and enjoyed playing billiards and competing in the Senior Olympic Games. He is survived by his daughter, Ginger McMinn and husband, Don, of Bartlett, two granddaughters, Melanie Ritchie and husband, Jim, of Vancouver, B. C., Melinda Wilder and husband, Ron, of Abuja, Nigeria, five great-grandchildren, and loving friend, Eva Quinn. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Grace Eleanor Mills Turner, and his son, James Ladd Turner. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, March 11 with the funeral service at 11:30 a. m., Friday, March 12, 2010, both being held at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be sent to First Baptist Church or a charity of your choosing.
