Thomas "Tim" Milton Smith's Obituary
Thomas "Tim" Milton Smith passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020. He was born in Memphis, TN August 17, 1940 to Milton and Edwina Kimbrell Smith.
Tim attended Central High School in Memphis, TN. He also served his country in the United States Army, and later in life attended Northwest Community College.
In late 1971, Tim and his wife Janice and children moved to Horn Lake, MS in DeSoto County. He retired early from Kimberly Clark in Memphis, TN. He served the City of Horn Lake for 40 years, including 10 years as reserve Police Officer, 27 years as an Alderman, three years on the Planning Commission and one year on Design Review. He loved his city and always wanted the best for it. For a short period, he was also a reserve deputy for the Desoto County Sherriff's Department.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Tommy and James Smith, and sister Jeanne Karakurt, and a brother-in-law, Terry Phelps.
He is survived by: his wife of 52 years Janice Smith; son Larry Sheffield (Melissa); daughters: Tina Judd (Joey) and Lee Antley (Keith); eight grandchildren: Jeremy Clements (Nicole), Allison Antley, Kathryn Sheffield (Alan), Forace Antley (Jacqui), Alisha German, Murphy Schutte (Brady), Joseph "JoJo" Judd (Danielle), and Dylan Sheffield: three sisters: Joyce Smith, Trish Foster (Steve), and Pam Phelps; seven great grandchildren; and his beloved dog Bailey.
Tim loved his family, and never missed a chance to brag on his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Any memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; Shriners Hospitals for Children or First Baptist Church, Horn Lake, MS.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, October 16 at 9:00 am at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Friends are invited to come but are asked to maintain a safe social distance from the family.
