Thomas Gary Samuels' Obituary
Thomas “Gary” Samuels, also known as Red Ryder, took his final ride August 22, 2022. Gary passed away peacefully with his children by his side. Gary was known to be quick with a joke and life of the party. He never met a stranger and will be missed by so many family and friends.
Gary was born to the late Waymon “Freck” and Dorothy Samuels in Memphis, TN on October 26, 1956. After graduating from Oakhaven High school in 1974, he married and went on to have two kids, Matt and Bri. He worked for Kroger for over 30 years starting off as a bag boy and retired as a store manager. Gary was married to Emily Tooley Samuels for the last 16 years. He was also a loving care taker for his mother in her final years.
He was a proud member of A.R.M. and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and volunteering with the association. He served many positions including Treasurer, President, and most recently Sergeant of Arms. He also volunteered in Kairos Prison Ministry.
He is survived by by his wife, Emily; his children Matt Samuels and Bri Jackson (Chris); brother, Don Samuels (Renee) and their children; mother of his children, Carla Samuels; two step sons and their families, Blaine Tooley (Lesley) and Brett Tooley (Priscilla); dear friend Susan Greenwell and many many more.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 27th at Collierville United Methodist Church, 454 W. Poplar Ave at 9:30 with funeral ceremony following at 10:30. Donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.
