Thomas George Richardson's Obituary
Thomas G. Richardson, Sr.Tom Richardson, 82, of Millington, passed away on Monday, March 4th at Methodist Hospital due to complications from pneumonia. He was born to Raymond John Richardson and Martha Lee Gettelfinger Richardson on April 29, 1930, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was predeceased by his mother and father and brother, John.He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sherry Jenkins Richardson. He also leaves three sons, Thomas G. (Rick) Richardson, Jr., Dr. David Richardson, both of Memphis, and Robert Richardson of Sachse, Texas, and four grandchildren. Bethany, Mahra, Robyn and Trey Richardson. He also leaves a sister Ann Karn of Memphis, four nieces and five nephews.Mr. Richardson graduated from Whitehaven High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier the Boxer during the Korean conflict. He went on to become a photo engraver with the Memphis Press Scimitar while obtaining his bachelor’s degree from (then) Memphis State University. He was co-owner of Dixie Litho Plate Company and LithoColor, manufacturers of printing plates for the folding carton industry. He was simultaneously a partner of Weddings of Distinction/Blooms and Bouquets, florist and wedding catering company. He retired as an independent salesman after 15 years with the Milton Sternberger Company. After retirement, he and a partner opened the Boat Store on Patriot Lake in Shelby Farms Park renting pedal boats and selling disc golf equipment.He is remembered professionally as an entrepreneur of integrity and equity – the consummate salesman. He is remembered personally as a Godly man of steadfast faith and generosity, a loyal friend and a true patriot.A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 11th, at 6:00 pm at New Church Memphis, 4917 Macon Road at Mendenhall, with Mr. Richardson’s nephew Chip Taylor officiating. The family will receive guests at the reception immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The family requests memorial contributions be sent to New Church Memphis or to Central Christian Church, 531 S. McLean Blvd, Memphis, TN 38104.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
