Dr. Thomas O. Nash Jr.'s Obituary
Dr. Thomas O. Nash Jr. (Tommy) left for heaven on Sunday, February 20th, 2022. Tommy Nash was born on January 27th, 1924 and lived in Memphis for all of his 98 years. As a young man, he was trained as a ball turret gunner for the Army Air Force during WWII. He later studied engineering at Memphis State University before making the switch to dental school. He graduated from UT College of Dentistry in 1952 and practiced in the midtown/medical district area originally, then started his own practice at 968 S.Cooper St. in 1963, where he stayed until 1996. He also taught endodontics at UT for many years.
Dr. Nash was a member of the ADA (American Dental Association) and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid tennis player and also enjoyed handball and other sports. He discovered the Memphis Senior Olympics in his late 60's and was hooked on the camaraderie of the games, participating every year and winning dozens of medals and awards until his last Olympics at age 95. Dr.Nash was a devout Catholic who generously donated his time and money to the church and attended mass 6 days/week for many years.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Natalie, and his younger siblings: Dr. John Paul Nash, and Sister Thomas Katherine Nash. He leaves behind his wife Beverly Emerson Nash, to whom he was married for 74 years, and his children, Tom III and Kimberly, 1 niece, 2 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Funeral mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 9th at 1:30 pm. The burial ceremony will take place at West TN Veterans Memorial Park (Forest Hill Irene Rd) at 2:30 p.m., March 10, 2022.
