Thomas Frederick Jenkins' Obituary
Thomas Frederick Jenkins, Jr., 62, passed away February 17, 2014 at his home in Lakeland, TN. He was born on February 12, 1952 in Memphis, TN to Dorothy G. and Thomas F. Jenkins, Sr. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow with the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Jenkins retired from Mass Mutual after 25 years of service in insurance and financial planning. A charter resident of Lakeland, Mr. Jenkins was a past President and active member of the Lakeland Civic Club. He co-founded the Tennessee Funfest, which he chaired for 25 years and led it to become the Tennessee State Championship Barbeque Contest. Mr. Jenkins remained a lifelong fan and supporter of his alma mater, the University of Memphis, where he ran cross-country. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of eight years, Carolyn Jenkins; two children, Amy J. Pirtle and Ben Jenkins (Emily); step-daughter, Cher Bork (Chris); four grandchildren, Serena Belle Pirtle, Hudson Bork, Ella Bork, and Whit Jenkins; mother, Dorothy G. Jenkins; and three siblings, John Barry Jenkins (Kempie), Peggy J. Miller (Ron), and Tiffany J. Hefferman (Mike). The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 20 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Burial services will be private.
