Thomas Carl Foley's Obituary
Major General Thomas Carl Foley, 79, passed away on October 14, 2014 at his home after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Alice Boro and Herbert James Foley. He was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts. He served as an officer in the United States Army for 35 years and held a wide variety of command and operational assignments culminating with his appointment as the Commanding General of Fort Knox and Commandant of the Armor School. Gen. Foley also served two tours in the Military Assistance Command Vietnam. Awards and decorations which General Foley received include the Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medals with V Device, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Brazilian Pacificador Medal. Following his active military service, he was employed as the President and General Manager of FMC Arabia in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Following his retirement from this company, he continued to provide consulting services to the Department of Defense and the defense industry. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra Gage Foley, two children, Kevin (Lynn) Foley of Germantown, Tennessee, Kathi (James) Dell of Severna Park, Maryland, four grandchildren, Sean Foley, Stephanie (Will) Eady, Ryan Foley, and Matthew Dell. He also leaves one sister, Susanne Foley Mullen of Foxboro, Massachusetts. Visitation will be at the Catholic Church of the Incarnation on Saturday, October 18 at 1 p.m. to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project or to the charity of your choice.
