Thomas W. Bell, Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas W. Bell, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away on November 10, 2010 at Methodist Hospital Germantown. He was born in Panola County, Mississippi on Valentine’s Day, 1923 and was married for 58 years to Kay Nelson Bell, who preceded him in death. Tom was a WWII veteran, having proudly served his country with the 339th Fighter Group, Eighth Air Force, stationed at Fowlmere, England. After the War, Tom and Kay moved to Memphis, where he was employed as an accountant with The Quaker Oats Co. He remained employed with Quaker for 38 years until his retirement in 1985, being promoted to office manager and later manager inter-plant services. Tom and Kay also owned and operated The Stitchery Shoppe, which was initially located on Perkins and relocated on Erin Drive. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Mullins United Methodist Church, and the Crusaders Sunday School Class, for 53 years , serving in many positions, including Class President, Church Treasurer, baseball coach and youth leader. He is survived by his son, Tom Bell , Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Nancy Bell, of Germantown Tn , three grandchildren, Michael Bell, Rachael Bell and Paul Bell, his brother, Dr. Charles Bell and his sister-in-law Dr. Walterine Bell of Brandon, Mississippi, numerous nieces and nephews, and by his much loved caregivers who were with him during the later years of his life: Beverly Dixon, Shalli Brooks, Gail Rayford, Martha Corlew, Paula Dillard and Elizabeth Johnson. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 12th and funeral services will be at 1p.m. Saturday November 13th, both at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Poplar Ave. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Mullins United Methodist Church, Memphis Tennessee.
