Theda Smith's Obituary
Theda Smith, 89, lifetime resident of Memphis, passed away in a nursing home in Yucca Valley, California on Saturday, November 17, at 6:30 a.m. She had moved to California to live with her niece, Yvonne Francis, and later resided at the nursing home. Theda always considered Memphis her home and took pride in living and working here. She began her work history as a shoe sales person at Levy’s Department Store. She later worked as a hostess at the Park Avenue Restaurant until it burned early in 1950. In April of that year, she went to work for Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division with a total of 50 years dedicated service. She retired after working for 30 years as a Chief in the Information Center and returned to complete another 20 years as a part-time Social Agency Clerk. Theda was preceded in death by her son, Mike Clemmons, and her husband, Freland “Bud” Smith. She leaves behind her niece, Yvonne Frances from Joshua Tree, California, her nephew, Patrick O’Connell (wife, Brenda), of St. Amant, Louisiana and many friends who will always remember her loving heart and giving personality. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral home at 5668 Poplar on Wednesday, November 28. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the service to follow at 2:30 p.m.
