Terry Jacobus' Obituary
Terry Dwayne Jacobus, 56, of Cordova died June 20, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Dewayne and Shirley Ann Hancock Jacobus, and his sister, Lee Ann Jacobus Prince. He is survived by his long time companion, Carol Braswell of Cordova and his brother, Ken (Kim) and niece, Jessica of Olive Branch, MS. He was retired from the IBM Corporation. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. Growing up, he loved spending time at Sardis Lake with his family. He was baptized as a child at Eudora Baptist Church. Terry graduated from Sheffield High School in 1972 and attended the University of Memphis. He enjoyed watching and participating in sports. He was a charter member of the River City Rollers basketball team. He had participated in local, national and international track events. He represented the United States at the International Games in England in 1981 where he won a silver medal. At the Pan American Games in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1982, he won a gold medal and two silver medals. He was selected by the National Wheelchair Athletic Association as one of the top 50 athletes in the United States in 1983. Recently, Terry enjoyed volunteering at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Terry always said that he did not have an ordinary life, but he had an extraordinary life. Memorials can be made to the Memphis Botanic Garden or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
