Tally A Poppelreiter's Obituary
Tally Noe Poppelreiter was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1919. She was the daughter of Teresa Rosetti and Archimede Noe from Medicina, Italy. The family has kept in contact with their cousins there ever since. Tally married Thomas Poppelreiter from Saltillo, Mississippi and is the mother of two daughters; Patty Rottgering, of Memphis and Mary (Greg) Brunette of Portland, Oregon. She was proud to be the wife of a military husband from 1942 until 1982. During that time, before retiring from the Air Force, they were together in Anchorage, Alaska, Sacramento, California, Toul-Rosieres, France, and Chicopee, Massachusetts. She has also enjoyed visiting 44 of the 50 states! Tally has also been blessed to have traveled throughout Canada and nine European countries; France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Holland. Her most thrilling travel experience was to have had an audience with the pope in the Vatican! She always said, though, that her most proud accomplishments were her two daughters, both graduates from Memphis State University. She now leaves Patty, a retired, thirty-year teacher with Shelby County Schools and was also extremely proud of her grandson, Dan. In 1990, at the urging of her family, Tally documented her entire life in eight bound volumes of typed and illustrated memoirs. Her wish was to pass them on to her great-grandchildren some day. Her life was also featured in both Volume I and Volume II of Paul Canonici’s historical account in “The Delta Italians”. In it, she wrote: “ I could never have thought that my daughters would one day get to Medicina to meet our Italian family……something I would have given anything to do. Their visit changed them profoundly!”Tally is a member of Saint Louis Catholic Church. She has been a long-time resident at the Embassy apartments in Memphis and has had many fond memories there. Her burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. There, once again, she will rest beside her dearly departed husband, as she is now welcomed into heaven! The funeral mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Friday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m.
