Talbot Spottswood Mathes, III, 64, passed away August 3, 2009 after a long, courageous and inspiring battle with Guillain Barre.Talbot was born in Midland, Texas on February 4, 1945. He spent most of his life in Memphis, Tennessee where he graduated from East High School in l963. He attended University of Tennessee and graduated from Southwestern University with a BA in l967. Talbot was President of Mathes Bros. Insurance, Inc. and Mathes Investments. He volunteered for several years for the Crisis Center. Talbot was known for being extraordinarily bright, creative and caring for others and for his many and diverse interests and talents. He was married for 10 years and was the best son, brother and friend anyone could have.He is preceded in death by his father Talbot (Cap) Spottswood Mathes, Jr.He is survived by his mother Catherine Mathes of Germantown, TN, his sister Linda Catherine Mathes of Washington, DC, his beloved aunt and uncle Dr. Gordon and Nancy Mathes, many cousins and friends.A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life Saturday, August 8, 2:30pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A reception will be held after the service.Instead of flowers, contributions to favorite charities are encouraged.
