Sylvia Meeks' Obituary
Sylvia M. Meeks, 85, passed away at her home in Bartlett, TN on December 9, 2011. She was born in Myrtle, Mississippi, daughter of deceased Columbus and Annie Hale. She was the wife of deceased Lt Col Hillary (Dutch) Meeks for 52 years. She is survived by her brother Robert L. Hale and wife, Jeannette, her nephew, Robert L. Hale, Jr. of Sebastian, FL, her nieces Sheree Hale of Melbourne, FL, and Cynthia and husband, Normand Brault of Williston, VT, and great nephew, Michael Brault of Colchester, VT. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jones and James Hale and a sister, Francis Hale. Sylvia and her husband Dutch were founding members of the Memphis Bonsai Society, established in 1973. Their extensive bonsai collection was on display at the Memphis Bonsai Society’s annual show at the Memphis Botanical Gardens for many years. They also enjoyed a lifelong love and affection for their many dachshunds: Missy, Saucy, Suzi Q, Suzi 2 and Little Sue. Sylvia was a warm hearted person who spent many years of dedication to the welfare of the elderly family members. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. until the service begins at 2:30 on Monday, December 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorial donations be sent to charity of the donor’s choice.
