Sybil Cooper's Obituary
Sybil Tilghman Cooper, 87, of Memphis, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 2, 2011 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was able to slip away peacefully at home with the aid of hospice and her loving care-givers Arlene Waller, Sarah Dobbins, and Ann Cole of Regency Senior Care. Sybil was the daughter of the late Logan Tilghman and Alice Carey Tilghman of Kenton, TN, and was also preceded in death by a baby sister, Fay Jean Tilghman, and two brothers, Robert “Bear” Tilghman of Jackson, TN, and Rev. Logan Allen Tilghman of Cookeville, TN. In addition to her loving husband, Earl, of 67 years, she is survived by a brother, Jerry (Greta) Tilghman of Martinez, GA. Sybil leaves a son, Larry Cooper of Memphis, and a daughter, Lynne Cooper Jackson (Bill), of Atoka, TN, two granddaughters, Kristi Jackson of Cordova, and Wendye Jackson Horner (Brian), of Leesville, LA. She also leaves her pride and joy, a great granddaughter, Madison Claire Carter also of Leesville, LA. Sybil was a long time member of Second Presbyterian Church of Memphis and a previous member of Highland Heights C.P. Church. Before her health declined, she was an active member of the Martha/Mary Circle at Second Presbyterian, as well as a devoted worker in the church library. She loved to read and faithfully read her bible daily as long as she was able. In addition to family members, Sybil leaves many beloved and faithful friends and neighbors, whose love, support and assistance has been cherished by the family. Members of the Martha/Mary Circle remained faithful to her to the end. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 5, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 5, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests any memorials be sent to the Martha/ Mary Circle or the Library Fund at Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38111.
