Susanne Doty's Obituary
Susanne Combe Doty, 80, of Memphis, TN, formerly of Greenville, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2018. She was born in Vandalia, IL to Lorain Combe and Esther (Moon) Combe on February 17, 1938. She joins her late husband of 45 years, Dr. Charles R. Doty, parents, and brother Charles Combe. Although Sue spent the last six years in Memphis TN, she spent a significant amount of her adult life in East Brunswick, NJ where she raised her children and was an elementary school teacher. After her husband’s retirement, they returned to southern Illinois, where she enjoyed birdwatching and nature. She and her family spent every summer on the shores of Lake Michigan at Epworth Heights in Ludington Michigan, where she oversaw the library for many years and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. Sue will be remembered for her love of travel and family, her epic Scrabble games, and her spectacular pecan tarts. She had a kind heart, a mischievous giggle, and a twinkle in her eye. Survivors include her children, Brett Doty of Memphis TN and Jennifer Ely of Ludington MI; her daughter-in-law Linda Jarmulowicz; grandchildren Callum Doty, Alexandra Doty, and Christopher Wright; and her nephew Daniel Combe and niece Teresa Figg and their children. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Sue in her last few years, including the staff at the Allen Morgan Nursing Home at Trezevant, Carolyn Taylor, Eugene Buder, and her many friends from Epworth Heights, New Jersey, and Greenville IL. A service will be held at 2:00PM on July 24, 2018 in the Little Chapel 3rd Floor Allen Morgan Health Center in Memphis Tennessee and a Memorial service will be held at Epworth Heights in Michigan in 2019. Memorial donations in Sue’s name can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation http://www.parkinson.org .
