Susan Joy Hoover's Obituary
Susan Joy Hoover passed from this earth on September 19, 2024, headed for her next great adventure. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Charles “Wink” Hoover III and Sandara Robinson Hoover, Susan had a sense of adventure woven into her soul. As a small child, she would go fishing with her grandparents and play football in the front yard with the neighborhood children.
Susan excelled in academics, spending time studying in Germany during high school and graduating with honors from the University of Mississippi. She treasured her time spent at the honors building with friends and spent a semester at King’s College in London, where lifelong friendships blossomed.
Susan later became a paralegal, spending the majority of her career with attorney Lytle Nichol at Evans and Petree, working in estate law. Their close working relationship was a testament to their mutual respect and camaraderie, and they both retired together in 2023.
Susan’s spirit led her to push her boundaries by competing in Ironman Triathlons on multiple occasions. Along with her sister Robin, she studied martial arts. She traveled to Europe with friends and her nephew Quinton, and motorcycle travel became a passion. Long trips down the Natchez Trace or a journey from Memphis to Maine with her nephew Clay were heaven in her mind. “Wind Therapy” became her way of life, and “Buy the Bike” became her mantra.
It was on a motorcycle trip that Susan became aware that her life would change forever. A glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, had taken hold. Susan fought cancer with the same vigor she approached life, and her competitive spirit gave her the strength to survive longer than the average life expectancy. She was proud of that accomplishment.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Charles “Wink” Hoover III. She is survived by her mother, Sandara Sawyer; sister, Robin Sandberg; brother, Charles Winston Hoover IV (Christian); as well as nephews Charles “Quinton” Hoover (Amanda), Clayton Alexander Hoover, Aiden Bevans and her aunt Cathy Allen (Joe). Survivors also include her beloved dogs, Austin and Brinkley.
