Susan Patricia Friedman Proctor's Obituary
Susan Patricia Friedman Proctor, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a generous friend to many, passed away Wednesday, September 26. After a courageous battle against cancer, her life ended all too soon. She was 57. Born in Corbin, Kentucky, and a former cheerleader for the Kentucky Colonels ABA team, she is predeceased by both her mother Mary Myrtle Friedman Vaughn and her father Bob Friedman. She leaves behind her brother, Fred Friedman, of South Point, Ohio. Not to anyone’s surprise, Susan was an award-winning gymnast in high school which, we are convinced, aided her in jumping through hoops her entire life rescuing animals. An accomplished equestrian rider, her love of horses, dogs, and cats topped the four-legged list. After her days as a Flight Attendant for Southern Airlines in Atlanta, Susan moved to Memphis in 1980 and quickly found her niche in the advertising business. She started in radio sales then became the co-founder of a local advertising agency. One evening, in 1983 before we all had cell phones, Bob Proctor met Susan as he walked out of a phone booth at Houlihan’s Restaurant … and Susan walked into Bob’s life forever. A true love at first sight story. Together they raised three outstanding daughters – Jordan Proctor, Lindsay Proctor and Whitney Proctor Pitts. All three beautiful women inside and out. Living in Memphis with all of her children nearby made it easy for Susan to share her big heart and good times with them. Her son-in-law, John T. Pitts, will most remember Susan for her amazing strength. She was their rock. Her two grandchildren, Proctor and Thomas, will remember their SuSu for all of their fun times and fun trips to the beach with her. Her daughters Jordan, Lindsay and Whitney will remember her for her love, her laughter, and her zest for life. His devoted wife of 27 years, Bob Proctor will always remember Susan’s unconditional love. The family will host a special celebration of life for Susan on Sunday. Her memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Hope Presbyterian Church, 8500 Walnut Grove, at 10am Monday, October 1. Flowers should be sent directly to Hope Church. If you would like to make a donation to her favorite charity, please make it to Ronald McDonald House of Memphis in memory of Susan Proctor.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
