Sue Thornburg's Obituary
Mary Sue Woodruff Thornburg, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2011 at Baptist Collierville after a long illness with her family at her side. She was born on February 12, 1928, in Dukedom, TN. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, B.W. Thornburg of Collierville, TN. Also leaving a sister, Ella Beauton (John) Cox, of Memphis and brother, Clarence E. (Beth) Woodruff of Cherokee Village, AR. She and her husband raised four children in Memphis, TN, Wes Thornburg, Randy (Linda) Thornburg, Steve (Bridget) Thornburg, and Kathy (Dave) Thornburg-Gries. She will also be missed by her 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a long time Realtor and was very involved in the early development of Parkway Village Subdivision. In the early 1970’s, she acted as organizing chairman of the monthly Ladies Day Luncheon at Colonial Country Club. When her husband was elected Illustrious Potentate of Al Chymia Shrine Temple in 1993 she served as his First Lady. In her free time she volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. Francis Hospital East. Nanny, as she was called, was a great cook-famous for her homemade ravioli. One of her favorite things was a great day of fishing. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, also at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
