Sue Goldberg's Obituary
Martha Sue Shannon Goldberg, 68 years old. Born May 22, 1942 in Washington, D.C. and had “second birthday” December 29, 1990 from a lung transplant at The University of Texas Medical Center at San Antonio, died February 26, 2011 in Memphis, TN. Sue is preceded in death by husband Arnold Leslie Goldberg. Survivors include sons Jeffrey Oscar Goldberg (Ann), and Michael Holmes Goldberg (fiancée Kathleen) of Memphis and daughter Jill Elizabeth Goldberg Beaumont (John) of Marion, Arkansas. “Sue-Sue” treasured her grandchildren, Murry Arnold Goldberg, Mary Miller Goldberg, Grace McLemore Beaumont, Jessie Beal Beaumont and Martha Shannon Beaumont. She loved telling stories, sharing God, and attending all events in which they participated. She is also survived by her beloved and devoted sister Dottie Todd (Don), her niece Robin Hargett (Jack) and nephew Shannon Wright (Cindy), aunt Virginia “Ninnie” Harris Oakley of Memphis and brother-in-law Barry Goldberg of New York, NY. Sue was an active member and served on the Diaconate and Session of Woodland Presbyterian Church and was an Officer of Presbyterian Women and loved participating in the Handbell Choir, Outreach Choir and teaching in the children’s ACTION program. She often provided percussion accompaniment (mainly bongos) during church services and seasonal programs. Sue taught in Shelby County Schools and Woodland Presbyterian School and served as President of Psi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority and was an active in the Woman’s Exchange for many years. Sue graduated from Whitehaven High School, attended MSCW and graduated from Memphis State University. Memorial gifts may be made to Woodland Presbyterian Church. Both the visitation and the funeral will be at Woodland Presbyterian, 5217 Park Ave. The visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday and the funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday.
