Sue Crawley's Obituary
Dorothy Sue Short Crawley passed from this life on February 14, 2025, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. The daughter of William Jesse ("Bill") Short and Ruby Jackson Short, Sue was born on February 14, 1930, in Butlerville, Arkansas. Sue grew up in nearby Beebe, where she was salutatorian of the 1947 graduating class of Beebe High School. After graduating from Ouachita Baptist University in 1951, Sue taught school in Paris, Wilson, and then in West Memphis, Arkansas until she married A. David ("Dave") Crawley of Memphis in 1958. Sue was a devoted wife and mother who selflessly loved and served her family. She was also deeply committed to her faith and was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church, where she remained active as long as her health permitted. Sue was preceded in death by her brother, W. J. Short, and by her her husband, Dave. She is survived by her son, Stephen Crawley, and daughter Suzanne Cowan, both of Memphis, by her grandsons, Robert and Reed Cowan, of St. James, Missouri, and by her granddaughter, Kelly Cowan, of Omaha, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Monday, February 24, beginning at 2:00 PM, with a service following at 3:00 PM, at Memphis Memorial Park Funeral Home. Committal at Memorial Park Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Memphis Union Mission or to the charity of the donor's choice.
