Steven Montgomery's Obituary
Steven Montgomery, 70, passed away on November 15, 2022. He attended Messick School from 1st to 10th grade and was a member of Wooddale High School's first graduating class in 1970. While at Wooddale, Steve excelled at track and basketball. He answered his calling to serve and protect the citizen's of Shelby County, becoming a member of the Sheriff's Department. During nearly 30 years of employment he would serve as courtroom bailiff, patrolman, and member of the Fugitive, Narcotics, and Detective Squads. He was responsible for the development and implementation of the successful ALERT system for Shelby County. This system has since been adopted by many departments across the nation. For his efforts, he received an Officer of the Year Award and eventually retired at the rank of Sergeant. Steve will be remembered as a serious officer, full of grit, a man with a keen, quick sense of humor and a deep love for family, friends and the Memphis Tigers Athletic Program. In declining health for many years, Steve has now joined loved ones and His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He leaves a brother, Andrew Montgomery, a nephew, Jayson Montgomery, a niece, Andrea Montgomery, faithful friend Donna Morrison and many other beloved family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church of Atoka TN, Missions Fund. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 22.
