Stephen Alexander Thomas' Obituary
Stephen Alexander Thomas died unexpectedly after a brief illness. He was greatly loved by his family and those close to him. He was the epitome of kindness, joy, and laughter!
Steve was born in Jacksonville, FL and at the age of three moved to Memphis, the city he considered his hometown. He graduated from MUS, attended the University of Arkansas where he pledged SAE, and then completed his degree at the University of Memphis. He proudly worked with his father in the commercial real estate business and eventually ventured into the realm of residential real estate, becoming actively involved in the industry.
He adored his beautiful wife, Mariette, and she was the central focus of his life. They had 17 happy years together and created a beautiful life sharing their mutual love of family, home and travel. Steve loved his three daughters, Amalia Grace Pipkin (Daniel), Ellen Thomas Bolam (Chris), Ivy Anderson Thomas and his step children, J.P Kruger (Tiffany), Arend Kruger (Leah), and Sane Tellez (Andres). His beloved sisters are Joan Thomas, Beth Ploch (Tom), and Carol Blumeyer (Peter). His grandchildren are Evelyn Pipkin, Luke Pipkin, Petra Tellez, Alexander Tellez, Kinley Kruger, Willa Kruger, Clara Kruger and John B. Kruger. They all adore Papa Chuck!
Steve had the gift of bringing people together. He not only had an exceptionally close and happy marriage, but he possessed a gift of creating close bonds amongst the people in his life. His children, stepchildren, and grandchildren admired him dearly.
Steve was a true chef in the kitchen and was especially a master griller. He was known for his rack of lamb and his holiday ham! When his children would travel, he wanted them to send pictures of the meals, rather than scenery. Steve had a special place in his heart for his daughter, Ivy. She would often spend summers in his Florida home, creating laughter and love.
Steve was also quite the prankster, keeping all of us entertained and on our toes.
Steve loved to fish and thrived being the captain of a boat. He recently purchased his dream retirement home on the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Brandon, MS. He could fish in his own backyard and take his grandkids out for picnicking on the lake by boat. The home came with an outdoor kitchen and he was sold! His last days were spent at the home of his dreams.
Steve leaves a legacy of bringing everyone together. His joy was infectious, and he created bonds that will stay with us forever.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Midsouth Sober Living, a nonprofit organization lead by his daughter Grace Pipkin or to Thrive Memphis, a non profit special needs program, where his daughter Ivy Thomas attends.
Funeral Services for Stephen will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00am in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service starting at 10:00am until the service hour. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
