Stephen (Steve) Adams Johnson's Obituary
Stephen (Steve) Adams Johnson was born on March 25, 1959, to John A. Johnson, Jr., and Nancy Ann (South) Johnson.
Steve grew up in Caruthersville, MO, where he played basketball and football at Caruthersville High School. He moved to Memphis where he attended Memphis State University and played as a walk-on member of the Memphis State Football team. He remained a steadfast Memphis Tigers fan throughout his life.
Steve joined the Air Force in 1982 and completed basic training before being honorably discharged due to a medical condition. He then began a career in Finance and worked as a Loan Coordinator at FedEx Credit Union before suffering a stroke in 2003 which put him on disability. Steve then used his time to volunteer at his church mentoring young men, visiting members in the hospital, and sharing the gospel at Calvary Rescue Mission and West Tennessee State Prison. A mission trip to New York City was one of his most cherished memories.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nancy as well as his sister Holly.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Debra Karen (Babb) Johnson, his sister Amelia (Amy) Laurel Johnson, niece Linda Mitchell, and nephew Aaron Gamble. He is also survived by stepchildren Teri Read and husband David and Wendy Ray and husband Chris as well as six step-grandchildren: Aspen, Joshua, Mara, Willow and Rowan Read and Jacob Ray.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday, April 3. Visitation will be held 12:00-1:00pm followed by a service at 1:00pm. A private burial will follow at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Rescue Mission or Central Church.
