Stephen Leroy Pope Sr's Obituary
Stephen L. Pope Sr., 71, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease went to be with his Lord on August 14, 2021 at Trezevant Manor after an extended hospital stay. Born in Jackson, TN, on October 14, 1949. He went on to attend Jackson Schools, Vanderbilt University and received a certificate from American Institute for Foreign Study, Europe.
Always ahead of his time, he owned a waterbed store while in Vanderbilt. He also spent a number of years in the financial services industry. In the later years he had coownership in a factory in India manufacturing dome homes. Steve was a devoted husband and adored his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class and Men’s Prayer Breakfast. He is preceded in death by his mother, Violet McLemore Pope and his father, Judge H. Leroy Pope. Survived by his wife Deborah Dunn Pope, daughter, Allison Guess (Rob), son, Stephen L. Pope, Jr., four grandchildren, Ashley, Abigail, Preston, and Ainsley, and sister, Susan Smith.
A visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery for the family at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19. A graveside service will be held for the family at 11:30 a.m., Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials in his honor can be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
